The Hatton Gallery in Newcastle, part of Newcastle University, is a dynamic art space featuring a rich collection that spans from Renaissance works to contemporary art. Visitors can see a rotating program of modern exhibitions, historic pieces, and notable works such as Kurt Schwitters’ Merzbarn—an iconic 20th-century art installation. With over 3,500 pieces including works by artists like Francis Bacon and Richard Hamilton, the gallery offers both historical depth and fresh artistic perspectives.

The gallery is free to enter, though donations are encouraged. It opens Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm, and remains closed on Sundays.
